Minimum Order Quantities Explained (Real Numbers from Real Suppliers)

Wholesale Artificial Flowers: Real MOQs from 12 Different Suppliers

I asked 12 wholesale floral suppliers for their actual Minimum Order Quantities. Not the “contact us for pricing” nonsense. Real numbers.

Here is what they told me. Spoiler: You do not need $10,000 to start.

MOQ by Supplier Type

Chinese Factories (Direct)

These are the cheapest per stem. But they want volume.

SupplierMOQ (pieces)MOQ (value)Notes
Factory A (PE roses)500 stems~$750Mixed colors allowed
Factory B (silk orchids)300 stems~$600One color only
Factory C (hydrangeas)1,000 stems~$1,200They will not reply to smaller orders
Factory D (assorted)200 stems~$400Rare. Keep this supplier.

The reality: Most Chinese factories will ignore you if your order is under $1,000. Their sales staff work on commission. A $400 order is not worth their time.

Trading Companies (China-based)

These are middlemen. They buy from factories and resell to you. Higher prices, but lower MOQs.

SupplierMOQ (pieces)MOQ (value)Markup vs factory
Trader A100 stems~$200+30%
Trader B50 stems~$120+50%
Trader C20 stems~$60+80%

The tradeoff: You pay more per stem. But you can test a style with 20 stems instead of 500.

US-Based Wholesalers (Like Me)

We already imported the container. We hold inventory in the US. You buy by the box, not by the container.

SupplierMOQ (pieces)MOQ (value)Shipping time
Our site12 stems (per style)~$303–5 days
Other US wholesaler24 stems~$605–7 days

The advantage: No 45-day boat wait. No customs forms. No minimum container requirements.

How MOQ Works for Different Flower Types

Not all flowers have the same MOQ. Here is why.

Flower typeTypical MOQWhy
Roses (PE)500+ stemsMass-produced. Millions sold. Factories run big batches.
Peonies (silk)300+ stemsSlightly less common.
Orchids (real-touch)200+ stemsComplex molding. Higher cost per unit.
Hydrangeas (large heads)1,000+ stemsBulky. Expensive to ship. Factories want volume.
Greenery (eucalyptus, ferns)100+ stemsCheaper to produce. Lower risk for factories.
Trend colors (2026 shades)500+ stemsFactories do not want leftover unusual colors.

The “Mixed Colors” Problem

Many factories list MOQ as “500 stems.” You assume you can buy 500 stems of any color.

Wrong.

Often, the MOQ applies per color. So 500 red stems. Plus 500 white stems. Plus 500 pink stems.

Always ask: “Is this MOQ total across all colors, or per color?”

If they say “per color,” negotiate. Offer to pay 10% more for mixed colors. Some factories agree. Some do not.

How to Buy Wholesale with a Small Budget

You have three options if you cannot meet factory MOQs.

Option 1: Use a Trading Company (Higher Price, Lower Quantity)

Search Alibaba for “trading company” not “manufacturer.” Be upfront: “I want to buy 50 stems to test the market. Can you help?”

Many trading companies will say yes. Factories will say no.

Option 2: Join a Group Buy (Social Media)

There are Facebook groups and Discord servers where small shop owners combine orders.

You want 200 stems. Another shop wants 300 stems. Together, you hit the 500 MOQ. One person handles the import. You split the shipping.

Search terms: “Wholesale floral group buy” or “Bulk flowers co-op

Option 3: Buy from a US Wholesaler (Me)

I already bought the container. My MOQ is 12 stems. You pay more per stem than a factory, but you pay less in shipping and wait time.

Here is the math for 500 stems:

MethodCost per stemTotal costShipping time
Factory (China)$1.20$60060 days
US wholesaler$2.50$1,2505 days

You pay double per stem. But you do not tie up $600 for two months. And you can order 12 stems instead of 500.

The Hidden MOQ: Samples

Every supplier has an MOQ for samples. Usually 1–10 stems. But here is the trick:

Some factories treat sample orders as a test. If you order samples and then go silent, they will ignore your next message.

Always tell them after the sample: “I received the samples. They look great. I am preparing a bulk order. I will contact you in X weeks.”

This keeps the relationship warm.

The Bottom Line

Do not let MOQ scare you. You do not need to be a large importer.

Start small. Buy from a US wholesaler to test what sells. Then, when you know your best sellers, go to a factory for the volume discount.

That is how every successful wholesale floral business started. Nobody buys a container on their first order.
